Note: This checklist supports safe daily use but does not replace the need for formal LOLER inspections and certification.
- Equipment has a clear identification/serial number
- Manufacturer’s instructions are available and followed
- Equipment is being used for its intended purpose
General Equipment Info
Physical Condition Check
- No visible damage, cracks, or distortion
- No signs of corrosion, excessive wear, or fatigue
- All safety labels and markings are visible and readable\
- Equipment operates smoothly without unusual noises
- Moving parts (e.g., hooks, pulleys) are properly lubricated
- Brakes, clutches, and safety locks work correctly
- Emergency stop or cut-off works as expected
Functionality Check
Lifting Accessories (Slings, Chains, Hooks, etc.)
- No frayed wires, broken links, or loose fittings
- Safety latches on hooks are intact and working
- Load rating (SWL/WLL) is marked and not exceeded
- Thorough Examination has been completed by a competent person
- LOLER certificate is up-to-date (every 6 or 12 months) - any machinery lifting persons must be inspected every 6 months this includes forklift that does the lifting, man baskets, accsess equipment, tail lifts and anything else that is used in connection with lifting a person
- Maintenance log is complete and up-to-date
- Operator has been trained and authorised to use the equipment
